National Science Week 2008 in South Australia
National Science Week continues to get bigger and better each year! Officially running nationally from 16 to 24 August, Science Week in South Australia extends for almost 3 weeks, with exciting events taking place throughout the state.
Science Alive!
Science Alive! is one of the premier events in SA. Attracting over 20,000 people last year, Science Alive! will be even bigger this year. There will be more of everything: spectacular science shows, hands-on experiments, miniplanetariums, interactive exhibits, solar cars, electronics, native animals, robotics, flight simulators and so much more, including over 50 booths.Patron of National Science Week (SA) is internationally acclaimed science communicator, Dr Rob Morrison OAM. Rob Morrison and Deane Hutton will reunite for a number of performances of the hugely successful TV science show, The Curiosity Show.

Careers @ Science Alive!
Careers@ Science Alive is an additional day especially for high schools. It will feature workshops and presentations from young scientists and engineers who are forging exciting careers in locally-based organisations. The Great Big Science Gig will be coming from interstate to provide science entertainment. Activities throughout the day include driving robots, making electronic circuits, checking out the Sydney Olympic Torch and discovering the weird and wonderful worlds of the sciences, maths and engineering.

Science Week Hub
The Hub of National Science Week will be located in a giant marquee on the front lawns of the SA Museum on North Terrace in the city. Throughout Science Week, you can visit The Hub for information about events, presentations from scientists and displays, science shows and interactive activities from universities, science institutions and industry. The South Australian Museum will be Open for Science through 2008 National Science Week, including free Face to Face With Science workshops best suited for Y5/6-Y12 students 20th to 24th August. Sessions for younger students will be scheduled subject to demand so do make enquiries early. International Guest – Luke Hunter
Look out for dates for talks by renowned wildlife expert, Luke Hunter, our international tour guest for SWk. Luke Hunter is the Global Carnivore Program Coordinator for the Wildlife Conservation Society and an Associate Conservation Scientist in the Science and Exploration Program. Born in Australia, Luke Hunter has conducted fieldwork on large cats in Southern Africa since 1992, focusing on efforts to restore species to areas of their former range.

Other events include astronomical viewing evenings, electronics workshops, Science in the Pub, scientific rock concerts and so much more. Presentations range from hands-on science experiments, lectures, interactive presentations, behind-the-scenes tours and spectacular science shows – including a Grand Illusion Show!
